A person barricaded inside a home in Miami finally surrendered to police peacefully after a standoff that lasted about three hours.It began around 4:30 a.m. on Saturday after Miami Police received a call about a fight where one man was allegedly slashed during the dispute. He was transported to the hospital and is reportedly expected to be okay. The man walked out of a ground-floor apartment in NW 35th St and 19th Ave to a large police presence armed with long rifles. The neighboring apartments were evacuated while authorities tried to convince the man to come out. Children appeared to be in the unit as well. Detectives continue investigating the incident. Thousands still without power after severe thunderstorms moved through region

Storms rolled through much of southern New England Friday afternoon, bringing down trees and utility poles while knocking out power for thousands of people.As of Saturday morning at 8 a.m., some 39,000 customers were without power across the Bay State alone, according to the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency’s outage map.Around 77 percent of Andover, totaling more than 11,00 customers, is out of power, and North Andover, Lawrence are all experiencing significant outages as of Saturday morning.In terms of damage, scenes across the region included one in Andover where crews were responding to report of a tree that splintered and fell onto a vehicle. In Maynard, strong winds knocked down trees and electrical poles while in Tewksbury, a tree was completely uprooted and ripped up a sidewalk.Heavy winds and rain in Andover topped trees into power lines, blocked roads and smashed cars.
