(NEXSTAR) – The Grammys stopped doing it in 2012. The MTV Video Music Awards followed four years later. And, as of 2023, the Independent Spirit Awards wasn’t doing it either.So why do the Oscars still separate honorees into gender-specific categories?The nominees for the 95th Academy Awards were announced in late January, and among this year’s contenders were 20 actors who earned nods for performances in some of 2022’s best films. (NEXSTAR) – The start of daylight saving time is upon us again, meaning almost all Americans – Hawaii and parts of Arizona don't observe DST – are setting their clocks ahead one hour. Some, however, are calling for the bi-annual changing of the clocks to come to an end.But could we really "lock the clocks" soon?Lawmakers - both at the state and federal levels - are hoping that's the case. Hugo man identified as victim in shooting outside Cub Foods in Fridley

Ontario police shoot man who smuggled handgun into squad car after arrest, authorities say

Ontario Police Department officers shot a man already in a squad car after they failed to find a gun he'd hidden and he opened fire on them Friday afternoon, the department said in a news release.Officers were sent to a disabled vehicle in the 500 block of West Holt Boulevard near San Antonio Avenue just before 3:15 p.m., and when they arrived, they found 42-year-old Christopher Urena of San Dimas "acting erratically near the vehicle," the release said. Urena was wanted for alleged domestic violence, and when officers arrested him and put him in the back of a squad car, he pulled out a firearm he had "concealed on his person" and shot at the officers, who returned fire, police said.Urena, who "sustained a non-life threatening injury during the incident," stayed barricaded in the patrol car for several hours before he surrendered and was taken back into custody, police said, adding that they found a handgun at the scene.No officers or bystanders were injured. When Hollywood's biggest names walk head to the Oscars on Sunday, they'll notice something a little different. The normal red carpet has done a color swap and it's now a Champagne color. On Wednesday, crews rolled out the new color, but it will be still referred to as the red carpet. Oscars host Jimmy Kimmel was on hand to assist with the rollout.
