India-controlled Kashmir hit by a 5.4 magnitude earthquake, no damage reported, officials say

NEW DELHI (AP) — An earthquake struck the eastern India-controlled Kashmir region Tuesday, sending tremors throughout New Delhi and parts of northern India. The quake was also felt in Pakistan-controlled Kashmir and Pakistan.The quake had a 5.4 magnitude and its epicenter was in Doda, a small town in India-controlled Jammu and Kashmir, according to India’s National Center for Seismology. The quake was at a depth of 6 kilometers (3.7 miles).In Pakistan, many people fled their homes and offices in the capital, Islamabad, and the city of Lahore.Officials in both countries said there were no reports of immediate damage.The region has a history of powerful earthquakes.In 2005, a magnitude 7.6 quake in Pakistan-controlled Kashmir left more than 75,000 people dead. KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — At least six people were killed when Russian missiles hit civilian buildings in an overnight attack Tuesday in the central Ukrainian city of Kryvyi Rih, regional officials said, as rescuers scrambled to retrieve people believed to be trapped under the rubble.The strike involving cruise missiles hit a five-story residential building, which was engulfed in fire, Gov. LONDON (AP) — Three people were found dead in the English city of Nottingham, and three others were hit and injured by a van in linked early-morning incidents on Tuesday, police said.A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder, Nottinghamshire Police said.“This is an horrific and tragic incident which has claimed the lives of three people,” said Chief Constable Kate Meynell. (The Hill) - Target stores in at least five U.S. states had to be evacuated over the weekend after receiving bomb threats, which tie into the recent backlash the U.S.-based retail chain received for its Pride Month merchandise. The Washington Post reported on Monday that local news outlets in parts of Oklahoma, New York, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Louisiana received emails from unknown individuals about bomb threats at the stores. In one email sent to Oklahoma City NBC affiliate KFOR, which is owned by Nexstar Media Group, the individual listed seven locations in and around the Oklahoma City area, claiming that two of the locations already had bombs in them, adding that they hid the bombs inside of products. “The bombs will detonate in several hours, guess which ones have the bombs.
