S&P/TSX composite inches lower in late-morning trading Thursday, U.S. markets rise

TORONTO — Canada’s main stock index inched lower in late-morning trading, weighed down by telecoms and utilities, while U.S. markets rose. The S&P/TSX composite index was down 4.34 points at 20,557.30.In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 34.07 points at 35,554.19. CHICAGO — A 14-year-old boy has been charged in seven different armed robberies that occured in less than an hour on Tuesday.The boy faces 12 felony counts of armed robbery with a firearm, one misdemeanor count of criminal trespass to a vehicle and one misdemeanor count of battery.Police said the teen was arrested Tuesday after being identified as the offender who took property at gunpoint from multiple victims earlier that morning.The incidents occurred at the following times and locations: 1:50 a.m. - 1100 block of W. (Green Car Reports) -- Nissan is recalling 2018-2023 Leaf electric cars to address a potential issue that could cause vehicles to accelerate unintentionally after using cruise control.The recall covers Leafs manufactured from September 29, 2017, to March 15, 2023, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Norfolk Southern: East Palestine train derailment cost at $803 million

AUSTIN (KXAN) --- Hundreds of thousands of jobs in Austin are considered at risk of being threatened by artificial intelligence (AI), according to a report by the Chamber of Commerce. It ranked Austin in the Top 25 most threatened cities in the country for potential job losses from AI. It said 153,040 jobs are at risk, which is 13% of the city's total workforce. The report cited a recent study from the World Economic Forum (WEF) that estimated 83 million jobs could be automated worldwide by 2027.
